In the early evening, we made our way to the observatory at Mauna Kea. We were unfortunately not allowed to go all the way to the peak due to ice forming in the cooler temperatures, but we were still able to catch a spectacular view of the lower mountains during sunset. After the sun set, the stars really came out. accompanied by a lightning storm in the distance, the sky was lit up in many different ways. These photos show just how clear the view is in the skies of the Big Island.
